Meta’s Developing a Decentralized Platform

Experts Call it Alternative to Twitter

Meta has always tried its hands on every new development in the social media landscape. With Twitter 2.0 disappointing its users, especially after too many features being offered only to Twitter Blue subscribers, Meta has decided to take advantage of this. Providing an alternative system of management and moderation, Meta is bringing a Twitter-like social app, based on short text-based updates.

According to reports, the app code-named P92 will be a standalone text-based content app that will support ActivityPub – a decentralized social networking protocol that powers Twitter rival Mastodon and other federated apps. This platform sounds similar to Twitter Feed.

What Meta has to say?

The social media platform confirmed this by giving out a statement to Platformer:

We’re exploring a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text updates. We believe there’s an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests.”

This initiative will be a boon to help grow your business with Meta.

How is it expected to work?

This is considered Meta’s first step in a decentralized social networking protocol ActivityPub. The app is said to be Instagram branded and use its user database from the platform regardless of the participation of users in the new application. Users interested in this app can log in by using their Instagram credentials. Adam Mosseri, the present Instagram chief is heading this project, which is said to be at an ideation level. Meta is also experimenting with AI-Powered Chatbots for Insta and WhatsApp.

This move by Meta will be a milestone in the field of social media as the organization has never failed to enter new trends. With Twitter users increasingly getting disappointed by the changes made by Elon Musk, users have sorted various other alternatives. Meta is viewing this as a bigger opportunity to rope in Twitter users.

What is a decentralized network?

A decentralized network is is a network configuration where multiple authorities serve as a centralized hub for a subsection of participants. They rely on an expanded web of individual servers. One can then enable different elements and communities to set rules and retain information.  Considering this present social media scenario, though complicated, this is one of the best moves by Meta.
