Pay for the blue badge on Facebook & Instagram

Monday, February 20th, 2023

Twitter 2.0 has definitely changed some dynamics of the social media landscape. After Twitter, now Meta has also announced the launch of Meta Verified, a paid subscription service to get a blue badge on Facebook and Instagram, as the advertising-based business model.

Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg on Sunday, launched Meta Verified to get a verified blue badge at the cost of $11.33 a month for the web and $14.99 per month for iOS. Meta Verified will be rolled out in Australia and New Zealand initially and then will be introduced in other countries.

As seen, the subscrip[tion rates for web and iOS vary. This is simply because of the extra charges levied by Apple and Google.

What are the benefits of Meta Verified?

As quoted by Zuckerberg in a statement posted on Facebook & Instagram, This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across all services by Meta. Subscription will be done only after the account has been verified with government identification. Interestingly, there would be no changes in the accounts on Facebook and Instagram that have already been verified.

The social media giant also makes it clear that Meta Verified will be giving out subscriptions only to users above 18 years. The services are primarily aimed at content creators to authenticate and expand their presence on social media platforms. At the initial stage, this service will not be available for businesses.

It is just a matter of time to check how users will react to this feature. Notably, Twitter’s announcement of the paid subscription backfired initially.

It is also noteworthy, that Zuckerberg had initially announced that Facebook will be a free service, however in 2019, the company quite said no to its ‘Free’ slogan.
