Bloggerati of the Fortnight: Kaustubh Katdare

Saturday, December 1st, 2012

kaustubhCurrent Position and Organization:
CEO at CrazyEngineers TechnologiesPrivate Limited
Educational Background:
Bachelor of Engineering, (Electrical) from Nagpur University
Blog Name: The Big K’s Superblog

Kaustubh Katdare or The Big K as he’s fondly known by many, is a blogger and CEO of a start-up that promises a platform for the craziest engineers to get together and shape the future. His personal blog is a place where he writes about his interests, likes, dislikes, concerns and personal accounts from his life.

The blog that appears inconspicuous and modest is peppered with witty titles for the posts that are usually short, succinct and to the point. One may be forgiven if they come to think of some of the posts as status updates or diary entries. As opposed to several other blogs, The Big K’s Superblog doesn’t have a complex host of tabs for readers to navigate through and get lost in the blog. In fact, what is most amusing is his style of presentation. The two tabs, namely ‘Who is Big K anyway?’ and ‘Contact me’, by themselves are the two most unique sections of the blog, going by the terse and a deadpan comic style of presenting himself to the world. The sheer popularity and comments generated by these two tabs overwhelm the popularity of the rest of the blog posts.

What really keeps a reader hooked on to the blog is one, the simplicity of the language that a reader from any discipline could understand without breaking his head over it and two, the posts are not a whale of a note that one loses interest in reading, halfway through the post. Kaustubh’s ability to stick to the simplest form of blogging and yet be able to regularly share content entitles him to be our Bloggerati of the Fortnight.

Bloggerati of the Fortnight: Rahul Balyan

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

RahulCurrent Position and Organization:
Head – Digital Initiatives at Radio Mirchi
Areas of Expertise:
International Business development; FMCG. Media and Entertainment Sales; Digital Marketing
Educational Background:
Masters in Business Administration from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM); Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) from Punjab University, Chandigarh
                                  Blog Name:  Reflections

Rahul Balyan admits to the fact that this blog that he describes as ‘a marketer’s world view’, was an afterthought. However, what remains true to the core are the matters that are being talked about in the posts; which incidentally are marketing, culture or social issues centric, something Rahul strongly feels about.

Most topics dealt with are clearly segmented into Opinion, Reviews, Travelogue, Fiction and Image Gallery. While the Opinion segment clearly voices his concern and take on various socio-cultural issues, the Reviews section is a critique’s point of view on popular movies and sitcoms. The Travelogue documents his own sojourns across various patches of earth, and sky in certain cases. Most posts are in first person narrative and a gripping tale all the way till the end and begs a discerning judgment from the reader.

Aesthetically, the blog is quite neat and crisp with catchy headers that draw a reader to delve deeper into the posts. The blog theme is simple and soothing to eye as opposed to most popular blogs that are high on colour, design and jazz. The images used are of high-quality, with detailed captions that one could choose to see as a slideshow in the Image Gallery.

If one spends a decent amount of time in going through the blog posts, it’s easy to tell definitively that the topics are well researched and supplemented with hard facts. The same reason that allows Rahul to take a stand for/against an issue. Having said that, Rahul himself is very open to the idea of clearing the cloud of doubt that might arise in a reader’s mind in case his opinion is not particularly aligned to the reader’s. What’s more? He humbly seeks to address it separately, too. In fact his ability to put forward his views with brevity and backing it up with palpable logic is one of the reasons why we find him befitting of our title, Bloggerati of the Fortnight.

Bloggerati of the Fortnight: Aparna Balasubramanian

Thursday, November 1st, 2012

AparnaCurrent Position and Organisation:
Stay at home mother; Blogger and Freelance Photographer
Areas of Expertise:
Blogging; Food Photography and Styling; Black &White Photography; Interior/Exterior Photography; Street Photography
Blog Name: Mydiversekitchen

For those with a gastronomic bent of mind and a penchant to capture the finer things in life, food and photography is perhaps a match made in heaven. Aparna Subramanian’s blog is a visual delight for all and a must-visit for any vegetarian. There is an occasional sprinkling of posts on baking that she had a long time fascination with and as she puts it out herself, one might be forgiven to mistaken it for a baking blog.

As the blog title suggests, most posts are usually supplemented with a high-quality photograph of the dish/preparation along with the recipe, wherever applicable. Aparna’s virtual kitchen began as an attempt to showcase her family’s traditional Palakkad Iyer cuisine to the world and although it has grown to embrace multiple cuisines over time, it has been able to maintain the vegetarian culture to it.

Aesthetically, the blog is well laid out with images and words forming a cohesive web of unique reading experience. The title to the posts is catchy and keywords are marked in bold. Due references are made to sources that have been cited. It shouldn’t come as a surprise why this blog has been adorned with a multitude of awards and recognitions. To make sharing simple for those who wish to, a whole array of widgets are conveniently placed towards the end.

If one carefully sifts through the blog posts, it’s evident that Aparna has devoted a lot of time and energy in taking the reader through her creations; at times even relating to history that provides depth to the narrative. Most posts have elements of her personal journey and learning that she effortlessly blends into the art of storytelling which makes for a wholesome reading. We consider it an honour to recognise her efforts and give her the title of our Bloggerati of the Fortnight.

Bloggerati of the Fortnight: Manu Prasad

Monday, October 15th, 2012

ManuCurrent Position and Organisation:
Head- Social at Myntra Designs Pvt. Ltd.; Blogger; Columnist at Bangalore Mirror
Areas of Expertise:
Social Media; Brand Management; Blogging; Column Writing; Idea Generation; Business Strategy; Media Planning
Educational Background:
Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Marketing from Goa Institute of Management
                                       Blog Name:  manuprasad

If there is one trait that encapsulates the essence of Manu Prasad’s plethora of achievements, it is undoubtedly the gift of the gab. It shouldn’t ideally come as a total surprise for someone who has close to a decade of experience in broadband/satellite, radio and media companies. Add to this existing list, a consultant on a popular tabloid’s editorial content where he writes reviews of restaurants and various start-ups. Quite an enviable ensemble of talent, if you ask us.

Manu describes himself in his ‘About’ section of his blog in a third person narrative that is sure to leave the reader in splits, if not in awe. With his signature mark of a devil emitting what appears to be signals (the alphabet – M), it is quite hard for him to go unnoticed.

As a person who is acing his personal and professional life, he sure knows where to draw the line. This is evident enough from the host of blogs he maintains despite his tight schedule. The presence of a dedicated work related blog alongside a personal blog where he documents his experiences tells it all. In fact one of his primary blogs has clear headers, namely work, life and balance. Each of them redirect to an entirely different set of experience for a reader.

Aesthetically, the blogs are well laid out and distinctly different in look and feel to resonate with the content and posts that go into them. The post titles are ingeniously clever. Images and videos supplement the nature of the post. The language is slick and laden with humour in most cases. The first person narrative in most posts is gripping enough for one to come back more. These attributes, although abundantly spoken of, are along the guiding principles of a genuine blogger are seldom practiced by a whole lot of existing people. We, on the other hand find it befitting to crown him with our very own title of the bloggerati of the fortnight.

Bloggerati of the Fortnight: Vikram Roy

Saturday, September 15th, 2012

Vikram

Current Position and Organisation:
Executive E-Commerce Content & Digital Marketing at VioletBag.com
Areas of Expertise:
E-commerce SEO; Online catalogs; Online branding; online Publishing; E-mail marketing; Concept designing; Advertising
Educational Background:
Bachelor of Arts in English from Calcutta University
Post Graduate Diploma in Advertising and marketing from Amity School of Communication
Blog Name:  vikram roy’s blog

‘Author, critic and business writer’ is what Vikram Roy uses as his signature after introducing himself in the ‘About me’ section of his blog that he fondly refers to as a philosophy blog. He goes a step further by speaking about the essence of this blog which essentially revolves around science, arts and literature. Now, one would have ideally come across a sea of people on the blogosphere who have done a lot of work pertaining to writing on these subjects. What distinguishes Vikram are a bevy of accolades that he has lapped up and the level of engagement he has with his readers. Part of it comes from the success of his Amazon bestseller, “The Alchemist A mystery in three acts”.

For a first time visitor of the blog, it most definitely strikes as a forum rich in content; fine arts and philosophy blends effortlessly in his posts that touches the reader in subtle ways. Aesthetically, the posts are well laid out and most posts are assisted by carefully adjusted and artful pictures, a visual supplement to aid the reading pleasure, so to speak.

There are tabs on the page that are clearly demarcated in the header. One of these topics also highlights his reviews for films that he wrote for ‘IMDb’, a popular portal that houses reviews and rankings of world movies. The other key segment/tab is exclusively dedicated to his playwright venture, ‘The Alchemist’ that lets the reader form an opinion basis the description and other relevant details one goes through before picking up a book off the racks.

A free thinking and philosophical blog such as this warrants recognition and hence we deem it absolutely critical to feature Vikram Roy as our Bloggerati of the Fortnight.

Bloggerati of the Fortnight: Murtaza Ali

Saturday, September 1st, 2012

MurtazaCurrent Position and Organisation:
Content Writer and Sports Editor at F1India.Org; Editor at DSM Chronicle (Business Magazine of Delhi School of Management)
Areas of Expertise:
Creative Writing, Digital Marketing, Film Criticism, Sports Writing
Educational Background:
MBA in Marketing and Supply Chain Management from Delhi School of Management, Delhi Technical University (Formerly DCE); Bachelor in Technology in Electronics and Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia
Blog Name: A potpourri of Vestiges

Cinema and films today are at the mercy of film makers who are caught up in the frenzy of commercialization and mass entertainment. This blog is an attempt on Murtaza’s part to enlighten the masses about the glorious cinematic jewels of the by-gone era that are fast fading into obscurity. In its essence, A potpourri of Vestiges is a celebration of cinema’s artistic form highlighting those who have been instrumental in contributing to the legacy and are regarded in the world of celluloid as the finest.

As is evident from the posts, titles are fairly indicative of the story covered. While some chronicle the style and modus operandi of film makers over the ages along with their best films, others are critical reviews of films that have been featured on the ‘internet movie database (IMDB)’. Reviews of films are mostly assisted with a comparative fact chart that lists ratings by Murtaza himself along with the other essential pointers such as the Imdb ratings, genre, cast, language, country, runtime and colour.

If you are as bent as us to lay a lot of emphasis on the richness of the language and quality of content, then Murtaza has done a fabulous job in taking us readers through a spell binding journey of cinematic excellence. His ability to deliver a superior biography-like reading experience is reflective of his keen eye for detail.

As an opening quote to the blog by none other than Jean-Luc Godarrd himself, floating on the top as a masthead it reads, “Beauty is composed of an eternal, invariable element whose quantity is extremely difficult to determine, and a relative element which might be, either by turns or all at once, period, fashion, moral, passion.”; this blog is nothing less than justifying every essence of the quote. Needless to say, why it is justified to merit Murtaza Ali as our Bloggerati of the fortnight.
